Recovery program meets every Friday
Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered recovery program for men and women struggling with alcoholism, addictions, and other self-defeating behaviors, meets every Friday. Pancake supper at United Church of Christ
A pancake and sausage supper will be held at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, gravy and eggs. The cost of the meal is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 years of age and younger. There will also be baked goods available for sale. Anyone interested may also bid on items in our Lenten Bazaar. The church is located on Route 480 (Kearneysville Pike) one mile north of the Kearneysville exit on Rt. 9.
Oakland Church chocolate-lovers event Feb. 18
On Saturday, Feb. 18 from 2 − 4 p.m., join the WFF (Women of Faith and Friendship) for “Extravagant Love.” This is a women-only event where the decadence of chocolate will be enjoyed. Pancake supper to benefit Community Ministries
The public is invited to the annual pancake supper in support of Jefferson County Community Ministries on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. The supper will be served at Grace Reformed Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 112 East St., Middleway. The meal will be provided by the congregation of Grace Church and includes pancakes, sausage, fruit salads, dessert and beverages. Guests are asked to make a donation to support the JCCM food bank and other services to the needy in Jefferson County. ‘Movie Night Out’ at Zion Baptist
Zion Baptist Church, 819 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Charles Town, is hosting a movie night on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 2 − 4 p.m. The movie shown will be “Church — The Movie,” about a financial crisis looming as the members of a local Church are faced with the very real possibility of having to put their church up for sale. It is up to the congregation to band together and through music and God’s guidance save the church and themselves. Hot dogs, chips, popcorn and soda will be served. Pancake breakfast fundraiser Feb. 25
Kabletown United Methodist Church will be having a pancake fundraiser breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The menu will include pancakes, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, coffee, orange juice, iced tea and milk. Minimum donation of $7; Children under 12 years $3; Carry-outs $7. Carry-out tickets available at the door.
St. James to celebrate Carnevale
Saint James Catholic Church will celebrate Carnevale on Feb. 21. The Chamber Singers from Shepherd University will be guests at 7 p.m. in the church. They will join the Cappella Magna of Saint James Church. Desserts and beverages follow afterwards in the social hall. Musical entertainment accompanying the dessert buffet will feature selections from the Broadway stage, coordinated by Grace Guiney. The concert and buffet are free. Ash Wednesday schedule at Trinity Episcopal
Ash Wednesday services at Trinity Episcopal Church, corner of New and German St. in Shepherdstown, will be held on Feb. 22 at 7:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Imposition of Ashes and Holy Eucharist will be conducted at each service with a sermon at the 11 a.m. service and a sermon and music at the 7:30 p.m. service.
Middleway Methodist to show ‘Courageous’

Easter week activities at Trinity Episcopal
A Seder Dinner will be held on Maundy Thursday, April 5, at Trinity Episcopal Church, corner of Church and German St. in Shepherdstown, beginning at 6 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $10 per person. Following the Seder Dinner, there will be a service of Holy Eucharist and The Stripping of the Altar at 8 p.m. The Maundy Thursday through Good Friday vigil will start at the end of the service Thursday evening and continue until noon on Good Friday with the Prayer Book Liturgy being held at noon. The church will be open all day on Good Friday for prayer. The church will have an Easter eve service beginning at 5 p.m. on April 7. Easter Day services are at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. with Holy Eucharist, a sermon and Flowering of the Cross at each service. There will be an Easter egg hunt following the 10 a.m. service. Lenten activities at Trinity Episcopal
Trinity Episcopal Church, corner of Church and German St. in Shepherdstown, is planning the following activities for Lent. Beginning on Thursday, March 1, a five week Lenten series will concentrate on the Book of Common Prayer. The sessions will continue weekly through March 29. Each evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a soup and salad dinner. The program begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by Holy Eucharist with the opportunity for Laying on of the Hands for Healing at 8 p.m. An instructed Eucharist will be held at the 10 a.m. service on March 25 as a prelude tom the Thursday session on March 25.
