Area man hit by tractor-trailer

CHARLES TOWN – A local man has been hospitalized with serious injuries after he was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer while crossing U.S. Rt. 340 Tuesday morning.
Scott Michael Hundley, 18, of Harpers Ferry had been crossing U.S. 340 when he struck the side of a northbound tractor-trailer driven by Jerry L. Hale Jr., 43, of Stuarts Draft, Va., according to a press release from the Charles Town Police Department.
Hundley was transported to Jefferson Memorial Hospital by Independent Fire Company, and was later flown to Baltimore Shock-Trauma Center with serious injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
Emergency services personnel were dispatched at around 11:34 a.m., according to police.
The tractor-trailer is owned by Keystone Freight Corp. of North Bergen, N.J.
Both lanes of U.S. 340 were closed for a significant period of time, and the northbound lane was closed for approximately two hours.
The Charles Town Police Department was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Harpers Ferry Police Department, Ranson Police Department, W.Va. State Police, W.Va. Public Service Commission Transportation Division, W.Va. Division of Highways, Citizens Fire Department and Independent Fire Department.
The accident is currently being investigated by Senior Patrolman J.W. Newlin of the Charles Town Police Department.
