SHEPHERDSTOWN – Bill Wempe admits he feels some jitters as his 19-yearold daughter Spenser heads off to compete in the Miss America pageant, happening in Las Vegas a month from today.
But the retired FBI agent says his anxiety is all about his own ability to quell his nerves once the January competition gets under way. He isn’t at all worried about his only child.
“With Spenser, what you see is what you get – she’s calm and poised in every situation,” he said. “It isn’t something she’s just adopted since she began competing in beauty pageants. It’s just who she’s always been.”
